Magnet 82

Welcome to another edition of magnet! This week we’re talking about an important campaign by The&Partnership in calling for the protection of trans people with a ban on conversion therapy, the first round of stats from the recently launched ITVX and London being named the best city in the World!

And to those who celebrate, Happy Lunar New Year! You can check out our round up of the best LNY campaigns here.

Campaign for good:

The & Partnership has released a short film to address the abuse trans people endure when undergoing so-called “conversion therapy”. “It's not therapy, it's abuse” was created on a pro bono basis in partnership with 21 LGBT+ charities, co-ordinated by Stonewall.

The UK government had previously said a ban on “conversion therapy” would not include trans people, but earlier this week it brought forward legislation that would include the trans community in a full ban that protects all LGBT+ people.

Accompanied by Douglas Dare’s version of It’s a Sin by the Pet Shop Boys, the two-and-a-half minute film shows the “conversion therapy” practices that have been legal in the UK and is based on first-hand survivor testimony.

Toby Allen, executive creative director at The & Partnership, said.“At The & Partnership, we champion belonging, diversity and inclusion, as a company and across society. We believe no-one should be forced to change who they are, and our film makes clear that ‘conversion therapy’ is not therapy, it’s abuse. We're proud of all our LGBTQA+ people, and proud to work on this campaign to promote a full ban.”

ITVX

ITV released the stats for the performance of ITVX- it’s off to a successful start!

London:

London was recently named by World’s Best Cities as the best city in the 7th year in a row. They stated: "London continues to reign as the planet’s best cities for the seventh year running. This has been the busiest start to summer London has seen in more than a decade—with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Royal Ascot, RHS Chelsea Flower Show, Wimbledon, Boris’s resignation and, in the worst kind of end to summer, the Queen’s death and weeks of mourning.”

This is especially good for our industry- all eyes will be on London, already a prime spot for advertising.
